General instructions
Instructions to teachers
1- I prepare a chart of rules and hang it on the wall to
enable my learners to know about what is allowed to do
and what isn't allowed to do inside the class so that the
process of presentation goes on without any
interruption.
2- I create an atmosphere of friendship with my learners
like a father with his sons and daughters.
3- I use smiles, quietness, patience and eye-contact to
my learners.
4- I use democratic dialogues, phrases of
encouragement and praise to any of my learners'
achievement, and I avoid any phrases of threat or
anger.
5- I use non-verbal signals to show my refusal to the
naughty learner's misbehavior, like: shaking my head or
nodding, using my finger or my hand to show
disagreement.
6-I use verbal signals to stop that misbehavior like:
( No, stop that.Sh.. Sh.. , Could pay your attention to
the lesson , please?)
7- I can circulate the class till I reach the naughty
learner's seat and urge him gently and quietly to stop
that misbehavior.
8- I pay the learner's attention to the overhead
projector to involve him.
9- I involve or engage the learner in a group work.
He can be chosen as a leader, a presenter, a writer
or an organizer of a group work, for example.
10- I can soon create a quick teaching situation which
should relate to the lesson and involve the naughty
learner or learners in it, disregarding the learners'
Misbehavior, but not disregarding the learner himself.
I mean that I make use of the learner's misbehavior
to be part of a real situation that serves my lesson.
11- I can say to him," I appreciate your trial to make fun
and seem funny but I will appreciate you more, if you
share your friends in doing a pair work that relates to the lesson.
12-I use the conduct evaluation form that I have or I
ask the learners to use their self-evaluation conduct
form that they have.
13-I can use a parent- teacher conduct form.
14- I can hold a conference with the naughty learner to
discuss that misbehavior after the period so that the
process of lesson presentation can't be interrupted.
15- I can hold a conference with the learner, the school
sociologist, the school psychologist and the mentor
after the period.
16-I can contact the learner's parents to share me in
solving the problem.
17- I can report the school administration to interfere
to solve that problem.
Be Ready to Be Called On By Surprise
mute if scared or nervous. Consider giving students
a sentence or two like this:
"Yes, I want to answer but I need need time to think.
Could you come back to me in a minute?"
Watch Out for "Red Flag" Problem Times
Example strategy: Use a red flag to alert your group
that problematic behavior is occurring or might occur,
then prep the group members how to minimize the
problems rather than exacerbate the difficulties that
happen.
For example, when someone makes an inappropriate
comment, you can stay quiet rather than make an
even more inappropriate contribution.
